For Researchers
New themes section live on website (work in progress)
As a result of our launch we have had amazing feedback from the cancer research community resulting in us being able to develop a number of specific and related cancer research groups. We've created a new section highlighting the some well established and emerging research themes within the Sussex Cancer Research Centre. Each theme is either already meeting, or we plan to arrange meetings for each themed group. We hope to foster cross-institutional collaborations, projects, and grant applications in each themed area. We have additional themes on the way, so watch this space.
Clicking on each theme will take you to a directory of researchers aligned with that theme. This is work in progress and needs your input to grow and become more accurate so please let us know if we have missed anything, or got anything wrong.
Directory of researchers now online (work in progress)
We have started to build a directory of cancer researchers in Sussex. The goal is to have all our members listed under a limited number of themes to enable people looking to collaborate or connect discover you. This is very much work in progress, so please take a look and contact us with any changes we need to make.
Upcoming themed meetings to join include: the radiation research group, and the brain cancer research group.
We have recently initiated a Sussex Cancer Research Centre Radiation Research Group. The aim of the group will be to perform basic and translational research to improve the targeting of cancer using radiotherapy. Please let us know if you are interested in joining this group. Members include: Tim Humphrey, Helfrid Hochegger, Keith Caldecott, John Spencer, Evi Soutoglou, Deborah Sneddon, Mark O’Driscoll, Kok-Lung (Chris)Chan.
The Sussex Cancer Research Centre Brain Cancer Research Group is also planning its launch. All researchers interested in brain cancer research across BSMS, Unviersity of Sussex, Unviersity of Brighton, and Sussex NHS trusts are welcome to join.
Contact any appropriate group member with ideas that might promote applications for pump priming or studentships.

New Study: Long-term conditions could delay lung cancer diagnosis
A new study from cancer centre members, led by Dr Imogen Rogers, has revealed that that patients with one or more conditions that could provide "alternative explanations" for lung cancer symptoms experienced significant delays in receiving a diagnosis.
This research could pave the way for new guidelines and training for GPs, ultimately aiming to save lives by catching lung cancer earlier, even in patients with complicating health conditions.
